This action-packed weekend has been a community staple for more than 40 years. Each year the festival gets bigger and better with more successes to be celebrated.

Capital City Pride hosts Pride Fest weekend. This nonprofit organization works to host events that bring together members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, along with their friends and supporters. With free events, ticketed events, and family-friendly events for children, this festival is welcoming to all. These events are meant to inspire, educate, celebrate, and welcome a diverse community while cultivating a culture free of intolerance.

Last year’s Pride Fest Street Festival was one of the biggest yet. 30,000 festival-goers enjoyed a water park party, Drag King DSM, DJ dance party, and so much more. This year expansions are planned. A few new additions include more headline performances, a Pet Parade and Pride Fun Run.

Want to get involved? Volunteer opportunities are available on Capital City Pride’s website. Monetary donations can also be arranged to help hang pride flags to celebrate Iowa’s commitment to equality and respect for all. A total of 30 flags will be displayed throughout the Historic East Village.

Save the date for the 42nd Annual Pride Fest celebration, July 17-19, 2020. Contact Capital City Pride at marketing@capitalcitypride.org to learn how you can get involved.
