It's that time of year...the time when New Year's resolutions start dying a slow death. Every year I set them (I even try to be reasonable) and every year I break them. I set some again this year...only two...and I'm putting them out there for everyone to see. Hoping that will help me hold myself accountable and be an inspiration to you. You can do it and Greater Des Moines can help!
Both of my resolutions have some tie to Greater Des Moines. I'm relying on my city to help me make it a great year.
Monthly Date Night with the Hubs
My husband and I have great intentions of going on dates and spending some alone time away from our two daughters. But then life and planning ahead get in our way. This year, we've committed to monthly date nights. A monthly kid swap with some of our best friends is allowing this to happen. The January date is already in the books. We went to dinner and a movie at the new Flix Brewhouse. It. Was. Incredible! Super cool atmosphere. Delicious craft beers. Comfy seats. Dinner during the movie. We will be back. The whole experience was great including the friendly and helpful staff. Be sure to book your tickets online in advance though. Movies have been selling out which doesn't surprise me with how cool this place is.
Put My Phone Down After Work
Some days I am horrible at this. Ok, most days. I get home from work and my phone is still attached to me. I feel the need to keep checking email, see what's going on in the Facebook world and beat the next level of Frozen Free Fall. When I really should be decompressing and enjoying time with my family. So we've been working on a list of things to do instead of zoning out on our phones or watching TV. The only twist is that it all had to be free. Here's the list my daughters came up with. You can tell their mom works in the tourism industry. =)
- Go to the Natural Playscape at Jester Park
- Visit the Iowa State Capitol
- Burn off energy at the Valley West Mall play place
- Go for walks (on Greater Des Moines' 600+ miles of trails...I threw that in there)
- Make a snowman at the Sculpture Park (they want to add to the artwork!)
I'm sure the list will keep growing but we've got a good start so we can stop zoning and start connecting.
Greater Des Moines has never let me down and I know it is going to help me carry these resolutions out...the entire year. There's so much to do so we shouldn't have trouble filling up our time and making memories.
Have a resolution you want to share? I'd love to hear what incredible things you've got planned for 2015!
