10... 9... 8... 7... the countdown is on! With Christmas just around the corner, another of my favorite holidays is right behind it. (And no, I'm not referring to my birthday). As the hustle and bustle of the season culminates, as Santa makes appearances throughout the Metro and as gifts are wrapped and bows strategically placed-have you thought about what comes after the holiday ham and eggnog?

I'm talking about New Year's Eve, people. And here's my guide on a night (or day!) to remember, if you're a...

Noon Year's Eve at the Science Center of Iowa and Blank IMAX Dome Theater is great for the little ones. All leading up to 12 o'clock Noon. Citing, "Why should adults have all the fun?" Noon Year's Eve includes face painting. Balloon twisting. Noisemakers. And a massive balloon drop! sciowa.org

Here's a look at last year's countdown at the Science Center:

GuideOne's Imagineve
is another option for the whole family. Kids can jump around in bounce houses. Plus carnival games. Mascot appearances. Dancers. And a confetti drop at 8 p.m. all at Hy-Vee Hall at the Iowa Events Center. downtowndesmoines.com/imagineve

New Year's Eve Pops: Cirque de la Symphonie combines the musical styling of the Des Moines Symphony with world-renowned performing artists at the Des Moines Civic Center. Catch aerialists. Contortionists. Flyers and jugglers. Prepare to be wowed! dmsymphony.org

New Year's Eve Buffet at Triple Crown Eatery
takes the stress out of holiday planning. Located within the Prairie Meadows Casino Racetrack and Hotel property, grab a bite then try your hand at poker. Hit the slots. Stay overnight at the hotel and revel in the relaxing saltwater pool. New Year's Day Buffet also available. prairiemeadows.com

Bash to the Future at the Des Moines Social Club combines music and art installations. The lineup includes Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Holy White Hounds. The Candeez. And many more! Retro 1965 attire or futuristic 2065 outfits are encouraged. desmoinessocialclub.org

Pianopalooza New Year's Eve Party at Wooly's is where I'll be! Last year a group of us enjoyed it so much, we're gearing up for round two. The setup is similar to a dueling piano show with local favorites Tony Bohnenkamp and Megan Hill Mitchum leading the tunes. Let the drinking and dancing begin! woolysdm.com

As you devise your NYE plans, keep these in mind:

1. Buy your tickets in advance. It could save you money, and guarantees your spot if your chosen entertainment sells out.
2. If you plan to do dinner at any Greater Des Moines restaurant, call ahead for a reservation.
3. If you'll be going out for cocktails, save a few cab numbers in your phone beforehand. Or download the Uber app!

And wherever you are, whether you're popping champagne or watching the ball (or balloons!) drop-may you enjoy the end of the holiday season spent with family and friends.
